The Joey Bishop Show/Susan Hayward As Guest

|In April of 1968 Susan Hayward made a rare television appearance. She was a guest on The Joey Bishop Show. Joey's show was the typical
talk show format. This was a special night for the many fans of Susan Hayward. It was a chance to see Susan as "herself" and not as a character in a film. I was 19 years old, and I remember it well. It was so exciting to see her and hear her answer Joey's questions and the questions from the audience. We didn't have
VCRs way back then; however, if I had been THINKING, I would have taped the
show. Thank goodness two of Susan's fans had the presence of mind to do just that!
Update- A couple of years ago the soundbytes were accidentally deleted from the site. I was heartsick and until recently I was not aware of just exactly how to go about correcting the problem. Jill's recording of the show was on a cassette tape. I was so appreciative of that tape but I didn't know how to transfer it to the website. Also, I had received another cassette tape from Barbara Durante. Thankfully, more recently, another Susan Hayward admirer, (once her hairdresser!) Larry Dennis has recorded the show on a cd. I was able to get the cd information into the webpages.
Because of Barbara Durante, Jill Roberts' and Larry Dennis' efforts, we have the opportunity to "hear" the show again. Many will get to hear it for the first time.
At present there is a transcript of the show on the site. You can get to it from the link below. Since the transcript is based on Jill's recording, it probably won't match up exactly to the the recording I have on the pages now, but it will be close enough. So please refer also to the transcript. It will be enjoyable also.
This is a very special section that I am so happy to be able to share with you. Many thanks to Jill and Larry for helping me put this section of the site together. In the first place, they made and saved that precious tape throughout all of these years.
Secondly, Jill has used her expertise as a professional writer and editor to make
sure that the transcript of the show could be presented clearly and accurately. Last, but not least, Jill's generosity in sharing her story about the taping of the show and in sharing the tape itself reflects her own deep appreciation and respect for Susan's life and career.
Many thanks also to Errol Jones who was actually backstage in the Green Room
watching the show that night. He had the unique opportunity to meet Susan and
has generously allowed his thoughts to be shared.
I know you are going to enjoy these special moments.
